Our New Residence

Per my father's request (more like demand... haha, just kidding Dad), I am posting some more photos of our apartment.  Let me just apologize ahead of time for the mess... it's not that I'm too lazy to clean.  I just wanted to give a legitimate portrayal of where we live...

Our TV Area
Our Front Entrance
The Kitchen from one side
The Kitchen from the other side
View of the bathroom from the hallway entrance
View of the bathroom from the bedroom entrance (and two bedroom closets on either side)
Our lovely washer/dryer unit
Our salt & pepper shaker collection thus far
We finally got around to hanging some wedding photos
Our balcony
The beautiful view outside our window
So notice how I did not include a photo of the bedroom.  I actually took one but given the horrendous state it is currently in, I decided not to post it.  But just imagine the most standard looking bedroom, and that is it!

A Chair is Still a Chair

... even when there's no one sitting there.  But a chair is not a house.  And an apartment is not quite a house either.  But we call it home... because a house is not a home.  Home is our new apartment.  That just so happens to have some chairs...  See how I did that?

Three weeks after moving to a new apartment, and I am happy to say we are all unpacked, with the exception of one stubborn box in the bedroom that refuses to unpack itself.  If you're wondering, it holds the contents of Patrick's our desk and miscellaneous items from all the other boxes that I tossed in there as a result of me not knowing where to put them.  I'm looking forward to that glorious day at some ambiguous point in the future when this box is finally emptied and we can officially say we're unpacked.  But I've already determined that today is not that day.

Regardless of the one box, we are settling nicely into our new place.  Here is a glimpse of our living area:

And our kitchen/dining area:

For any of you who are unimpressed, it really is an improvement when compared to our last place.  The size is still about the same, but hey, it's quality, not quantity!

The reality in life that everyone realizes sooner or later (sooner if you watch a lot of HGTV like I do) is that there are always going to be advantages and disadvantages no matter where you move.  You just have to weigh them and decide what's most important to you.  Here's a little of what we were faced with upon moving to this place:

Advantages:
Affordably priced (for DC area)
Dishwasher (HUGE plus)
Washer/Dryer in unit (another HUGE plus)
Hardwood floors & Updated Kitchen
New building (built in 2005)
Temperature Control (another big deal considering our last apartment did not offer this!)
Balcony
Garage Parking (for free)
Located near Korean restaurants
Swimming pool on the roof

Disadvantages:
Located outside the city
Expensive and long commute on metro
Balcony overlooks a construction site

So the advantages clearly outweigh the disadvantages here, but the 3 disadvantages were definitely huge ones.  Patrick's commute to work went from a 10 minute walk to a 45-minute metro ride, and thanks to that stealthy robber cleverly disguised as the DC metro system, it's an expensive ride as well.

But all things considered, we decided to move here and neither of us has had any regrets so far.   I will let you know if that ever changes... and when/if we ever get around to unpacking that box.

oo,
