Hocking Hills, oh!

I am finally posting about our excellent weekend in Hocking Hills, OH!

If you're curious about the exclamation mark in the title, it's because I've been wanting to use the abbr. for Ohio as an interjection for awhile now and felt like this was a good opportunity.  Also whenever I use the word "abbreviate" I'm always compelled to abbr. it no matter how awkward it may look.

But enough about that.

In case you're wondering, Hocking Hills is a gorgeous State Park located about an hour southeast of Columbus, OH.  We stayed in Fallswood Lodge, which was super spacious and accommodating.

Thanks to Bill and Sue for the great find!

The weekend was spent with Patrick's dad's side of the family.  It was great getting to see everyone!  I love this picture of the siblings together:

Along with lovely company, our trip was packed with a ton of fun-tivities, like Cornhole:

We had quite a few experts around that weekend, but as for myself... let's just say, according to the Wikipedia list of terminology, I'm a bit of a "Sally".

Although I think my favorite word from this list is "Cornfusion": When players or teams cannot agree on the scoring of a given inning.

Allow me to take some poetic license with this term and say that there was a bit of "cornfusion" when some of the sandbags showed up missing one morning.  Hmm... was it the garbage man or the raccoon?

Other outdoor activities included hanging out by the pool:

... and in the pool.

There was also plenty of hiking.  Here we are at Old Man's Cave, the most popular place to visit in Hocking Hills:

You can't really see from the picture, but this place is truly gorgeous - with stunning rock formations, caves, and waterfalls.  (Not that seeing our beautiful faces lined up isn't truly gorgeous in its own way).

To fuel up, we had delicious food around all weekend.  Cheesy potatoes - 'nuff said.

And after dinner each night, we cleared the table for some super serious card playing.  You know, Go Fish and Indian Poker.

"Do you, by any chance, have any threes?"

"What about sevens?"

And, lucky for us, Claire Bear was around all weekend to keep us entertained.

Hmm... photo bomb?!?

There we go.

Claire was later joined by her second cousins, balancing out the child to adult ratio a bit.

Upon first greeting each other, there was no handshake or hugging.  Instead, there was a friendly exchange back and forth of Albert G. Beaver.  Much more civilized if you ask me :)

And finally, I must say a few words about the blue beach ball since a good portion of our entertainment for the weekend came from this.  Or maybe it's just that we took a lot of pictures of it.

It was roughly the same size as Claire, but that didn't deter her from carrying it around everywhere.

That is, except for when it was time for a "Mom" break.  We all need those once in awhile :)

And that pretty much concludes my recap of our splendid weekend in Hocking Hills!  Thank you to Aunt Judy, Aunt Cathy, and Susan for lending me some of your photos (and Uncle Mike via some of you).

Also, I highly recommend checking out Susan's (and Claire's) recap of the weekend on her blog Munchkrennland.

Have a great weekend!

  1. This is an AWESOME post! Hilarious. I love all the pics (some really nice ones I haven't seen), and I was cracking up at the cornhole vocab. Oh (no pun intended), I also appreciated the interjection and your excellent use of abbr. Well done. Can't wait to see you soon!
